Lila 02:51
CHORUS Nothing gold, nothing gold, nothing gold can stay In the hum, frame by frame, each and every day VERSE 1 Feeling high, feeling high All with you just standing by Low and slow the bass explodes Close your eyes, you’re in the flow Walk the tightrope, hold my hand Here we are in the promised land No time no space, just Lila and me Dancing with you by the edge of the sea (Come on) CHORUS VERSE 2 Nurture the spark, don’t let it die Turn it to fireworks against the sky Guardian’s home in the land of dreams Nothing at all is what it seems CHORUS BRIDGE Through the sky I feel the gentle vibration Run through my body CHORUS
2.
Remind Me 03:26
CHORUS Say that you love me to remind meSay that you need me even through the good timesI know you wonder why do I need to be toldI know it’s been a while and we’re both getting oldBut just say you love meVERSE 1 Appearing to be in control can take its toll on me Emotions can take over, come closer to me Feelin’ the need to be appreciated It doesn’t have to be over-rated, just CHORUS VERSE 2 Accept my imperfections and my vulnerability Reconnect our affection and show love to meFeelin’ the need to be appreciatedIt doesn’t have to be over-rated BUILD I know you wonder why do I need to be toldI know it’s been a while and we’re both getting oldI know you wonder why (I need to be told)I know it’s been a while (we’re both getting old) But just say you love me Say that you love me to remind me (say that you love me) Hmmmmm

1969 04:11
VERSE 1 She’s a throwback from another time, She wears a flower in her hair She buys her records from the markets, She’s so beautiful, but beautifully unaware. She drives an old car with a peace sign in the window No radio so she sings her favourite song If all the leaves are brown and the winter sky is gray Then maybe she can find the dream where she belongs CHORUS And I wonder if you’d marry me If I stopped you and asked you for your name And if the world changed for the last time Would you promise me that you’d always stay the same Cos we could never find, a better space in time You can always be my 1969 VERSE 2 She’s a Dylan fan from the early years She’s like a rolling stone Reads her Harper Lee in the same café everyday In the city she calls home CHORUS BRIDGE Take me back sweet 1969 Things have never been so clear I could be your 1969 If you’d have me here CHORUS
4.
VERSE 1 I thought I craved a good life A life lived in control Where everything was perfect all the time But it just got exhausting Until a wise man said to me You better grow up, before you grow old CHORUS You can carpet the world if you want to You can carpet the world but I ask you You can carpet the world but why would you When you can put on some shoes You can put on some shoes Dancing shoes VERSE 2 I could rage in anger, a fireball in my mind I’m just not sure where it gets me every time There’ll always be those stones, a pinching at my feet I better grow up before I grow old CHORUS
5.
Fine Line 04:13
INTRO Brush past me, feel the rush Of a 1000 words unspoken Brush past me, rest in the hush Of a 1000 words unspoken CHORUS Such a fine line such a fine line A thousand words unspoken No stepping over that fine line Keep yourself unbroken No lines crossed no lines crossed No need for that confession Just give me some space I need some space For my tenacious obsession VERSE 1 Strange confidence runs through my body Burning hot, feel the heat, don’t touch it You can run but don’t you touch Well just a little bit, just a little bit CHORUS VERSE 2 Blow the cage wide open With the biggest stick of dynamite Just light the match don’t fight it Light the fuse and watch it burn Blow it up, blow it up, blow it up to kingdom come BUILD (Blow it up, blow it up, blow it up to kingdom come) Brush past me, feel the rush Of a 1000 words unspoken Brush past me, rest in the hush Of a 1000 words unspoken CHORUS
6.
Sugar Bird 03:29
VERSE 1 Don’t you keep me hanging on Ticking like a timely bomb Led me down the garden path Now it’s time for that ice-cold bath CHORUS Don’t you know, truth be told Time has passed, we’re getting old The words got round, you know we’ve heard You need your fix you’re a sugar bird VERSE 2 Expectations dashed again Disappointment knows no end Shell-shocked by the words you write Like little bombs dropped in the night CHORUS VERSE 3 Plans are ground to dust refined Expectations misaligned Smashing hope to shreds - now fraught Dreams of the dreamer dissolve to naught CHORUS
7.
VERSE 1 Can you hear the distant calling It’s getting louder everyday Sometimes it jingle jangles, sometimes illuminates The call of the techno gizmo, can tie you up in knots Somebody is making demands of you, and it’s looking like the boss CHORUS I don’t need no midnight flight to Tuscany I don’t need no midnight flight to Rome I just need your loving arms when I get home I don’t need no rich man’s favour I don’t need no corporation call I just need to have you with me all alone VERSE 2 I’ve been walking round in circles talking to myself Can’t ever say hello to me I’m consumed somewhere else I’ve fallen down with fever, I got the yap yap disease Gonna take my girl and get out of here Before it takes a hold of me CHORUS
8.
Proximity 04:31
Waiting waiting waiting waiting Waiting waiting waiting waiting VERSE 1 Meet me in the field beyond It’s heaven here on Earth The field beyond the right and wrong Longing to unearth Waiting waiting waiting waiting Waiting waiting waiting waiting VERSE 2 Feel the possibility The tremor in your toes It’s the frisson in your fingers What’s coming next who knows CHORUS Proximity so close you can touch it Possibility reach in and own it Freedom is as close as a heartbeat away It’s waiting for you inside Waiting waiting waiting waiting Waiting waiting waiting waiting CHORUS Proximity so close you can touch it Possibility reach in and own it Freedom is as close as a heartbeat away It’s waiting for you inside Waiting waiting waiting waiting Waiting waiting waiting waiting It’s waiting for you inside

Show Up 03:07
VERSE 1 Who are you? Watcha doing in there? You’re stuck in my head and it don’t feel fair You whinge and you moan at all that I do Life used to be perfect until I met you… Then you showed up and I lost my way Snuck into my life I’d looked the other way You close my heart with your mindless noise Distract me with trinkets and expensive toys. CHORUS Show up! Show up! Reveal yourself for what you really are Show up! I want to see your face, You hide behind words you make me feel a disgrace VERSE 2 Who are you, watcha doing in here? Every night and day you wanna fill me with fear I toss and I turn rolling round in my bed, Like that damn mosquito, you buzz right through my head Don’t know where to turn I can’t take any more, It’s time to check out - just show me the door You thrive on dramas I’m starting to drown, In your ocean of anxiety I’m on my way down CHORUS VERSE 3 No story, see what’s right here No story, you don’t have to hold dear To what the past has told you you need to be To all the rules and regulations of society I used to think you were part of me Now I know you’re just a fantasy Don’t need your judgments your critical eye I’ve turned down the volume now I’m back to joy CHORUS You showed up! Oh yeh you showed up! Revealed yourself for what you really are You showed up and now I see your face, You’re just a bunch of words you put a smile on my face.
10.
VERSE 1 If it’s all about you Then I’ll leave you here with your moments Giving yourself, the attention you deserve Don’t look in my eye and tell me more of your stories Cos you’ve said enough, I’ve seen the way you work CHORUS And if I see you again I know I know it will be too soon If I see you again I might not hold my tongue Cos if I see you again I’ll say whatever I feel like saying If I see you again oh oh oh oh VERSE 2 Turn down the tears and I’ll leave you here with your moments Let me refrain from speaking out of turn It always seems like I’m stating the obvious to you But on this occasion the obvious seems understated so please understand CHORUS BRIDGE And I’m patiently waiting and I’m biding my time And I’m picking my moment to speak my mind CHORUS
11.
Sweet Desire 02:58
CHORUS What do you need? Which is higher? The speed of want or the speed of desire? Come alive, feel the fire Live the vibe of sweet desire VERSE 1 You’re the love of my life, extraordinary Then special descends into ordinary I thought you would meet all my needs I don't bring you flowers, just weeds How does it happen, the polish grows dim The tables have turned, romance is thin The lustre of love has gathered some rust Whispered sweet nothings lie in the dust CHORUS VERSE 2 Dazed and confused, trapped by convention Being the Joneses, there's no question I need a new car, I didn’t order this life Time to renovate, get a new wife, Get a new wife, get a new wife CHORUS VERSE 3 The storm in the mind is nought but a teacup You are what you are, an A or a D cup Let the ego dissolve (let the ego dissolve) The stories subside (the stories subside) Light the fire in the belly (fire in the belly) In the temple reside (temple reside) Roll off the island (roll off the island) And into the sea (into the sea) That place of not knowing (place of not knowing) What’s you and what’s me (you and what’s me) Ahhh CHORUS
12.
VERSE 1 I thought I craved a good life A life lived in control Where everything was perfect all the time But it just got exhausting Until a wise man said to me You better grow up, before you grow old CHORUS You can carpet the world if you want to You can carpet the world but I ask you You can carpet the world but why would you When you can put on some shoes You can put on some shoes Dancing shoes VERSE 2 I could rage in anger, a fireball in my mind I’m just not sure where it gets me every time There’ll always be those stones, a pinching at my feet I better grow up before I grow old CHORUS

about

This is a collection of songs written by members of the band, arranged, recorded and mixed by Darryl in his studio. We’ve consciously created an eclectic mix, countering the trend towards CDs where every track sounds the same. We’re juxtaposing the mystical against ‘smell-the-grass’ story-telling, a taste of country and western, next to our drug track (no drugs required). When we perform the songs live, each of us plays the instruments below, but for the purpose of this project, we each sang one or more of the songs and left the in-studio instruments for Darryl to play.

Tara Daly - vocals
Gillian Coutts - keys, bass, recorder, vocals
Malcolm Lewis - guitars, vocals
Andy MacRae - drums, vocals
Samantha Graham - saxophone, violin, keys, bass, vocals
Darryl Chute - bass, double bass, keys, drums, guitar, vocals

about

Vegas Nerve Collective Sydney, Australia

Vegas Nerve, the ‘improbable’ band, is a collection of six musicians, five of whom are under the tutelage of the bass player, Darryl Chute, muso extraordinaire, brilliant teacher and founder of Fountainhead Music studio. What brings us together, in addition to Darryl, is our love of music. In the tiniest soundbites between our six busy lives, we’ve managed to co-create what you’re hearing. Enjoy! ... more
